Material authenticity
Every jacket is cut from genuine animal hide — full-grain or top-grain cowhide, lambskin, or goatskin as specified per product. No bonded leather, split leather, or synthetic substitutes are used in any Vault & Hide jacket, ever.
Source transparency
We work with a small, audited group of tanneries in Pakistan and Italy meeting international environmental and quality standards. We can trace every hide from the tannery to the finished jacket. We publish our tannery names on request.
Physical verification
Every jacket shipped since January 2024 carries a tamper-evident authenticity tag with a unique QR code. Scan it to verify your jacket's leather type, tannery origin, production date, and order reference — from anywhere in the world.
What the guarantee covers
The Vault & Hide Authenticity Guarantee is an unconditional, worldwide commitment with no expiry date covering every aspect of leather authenticity from hide to your door.
The leather is exactly what we say it is
If a product page says full-grain cowhide, that is what you receive. If it says lambskin, it is lambskin. We do not substitute materials after photos are taken, use different hides for different markets, or blend materials without disclosure.
If you receive a jacket made from a different material than described, you are entitled to a full refund or free replacement — no questions, no returns form required.
Proof of authenticity is always available
Every order is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity stating the leather type, hide grade, tannery source, and order details. Digital certificates are emailed automatically. Physical certificates are included in the box on request.
Your certificate is tied to your order number and is permanently retrievable from your account under Order History.
No bonded or reconstituted leather — ever
Bonded leather — a composite of leather scraps and polyurethane — is legal to sell as "genuine leather" in most markets. We refuse to use it. Every Vault & Hide jacket uses only full hides, never composites, regardless of cost pressure or raw material availability.
Verifiable through REACH test reports and tannery supplier certificates, available on request.
Independent test reports on demand
We commission independent laboratory testing of our hides to verify material composition, restricted substance compliance (REACH / CPSC), and absence of harmful dyes. Test reports are available to any customer on request — not hidden behind an NDA or a fee.

Real leather vs. common substitutes
The leather goods market uses inconsistent and often misleading terminology. "Genuine leather," "PU leather," "vegan leather," and "bonded leather" are all sold under the same broad description in many markets. Here is what Vault & Hide uses — and what we refuse to touch.

Field test: Press your thumbnail firmly into the hide for 2 seconds then release. Full-grain leather will wrinkle naturally around the pressure point then slowly recover — just like skin. PU and bonded leather will not wrinkle; they spring back instantly with no grain movement. Every Vault & Hide jacket passes this test.

How to verify your jacket
Every Vault & Hide jacket shipped since January 2024 includes a tamper-evident authentication tag on the inner lining. Older orders can be verified via your order number.

Locate your authentication tag Physical
Look for the gold Vault & Hide authentication tag on the inner left side seam, just above the hem. The tag has a unique 12-digit code and a QR code printed on a tamper-evident label. If the label has been opened, contact us immediately.

Scan the QR code or enter your code Digital
Scan the QR code with your phone camera — no app required. You will be taken to our authentication portal showing your jacket's leather type, hide grade, tannery, production date, and order reference. Alternatively, visit vaultandhide.com/verify and enter your 12-digit code manually.

Check your Certificate of Authenticity Email
A digital Certificate of Authenticity was emailed to the address on your order when your jacket was dispatched. If you cannot find it, log in to your account, go to Order History, and download it from your order page. Physical certificates are available on request.

Request independent verification Optional
For third-party confirmation — before a resale or insurance valuation — email [email protected]. We can provide the original laboratory test report for your specific hide batch, the tannery certificate, and a signed letter of provenance for high-value orders.
Bought second-hand? You can still verify authenticity using the tag or order number. Pre-owned Vault & Hide jackets carry full authentication history. If the QR code has been removed or defaced, contact us with photos and we can cross-reference our production records.
How to spot a counterfeit or imitation
A small number of sellers misrepresent their products as Vault & Hide jackets or falsely claim to use equivalent leather. Here are the warning signs.
⚠ Warning signs — treat these as red flags when buying leather jackets anywhere
Price too low for real leather. Full-grain cowhide jackets cannot be manufactured, finished, and shipped globally for under $100–120. If the price seems impossible, the leather probably is too.
"100% genuine leather" with no grade specified. "Genuine leather" is a legal grade term meaning the lowest-quality real leather — split leather coated to look premium. Insist on "full-grain" or "top-grain" with the animal species stated.
No country of origin on the label. International trade law requires country of origin on all garments. A missing or vague origin label is a signal of undisclosed sourcing.
Perfectly uniform grain across the entire jacket. Real leather has natural variation in grain, texture, and minor surface marks. A jacket with completely uniform, identical grain across every panel is almost certainly synthetic or heavily corrected split leather.
Plastic smell out of the box. Real leather has a distinctive organic, slightly earthy smell. A strong plastic or chemical smell indicates synthetic or heavily coated material masking the underlying composition.
Seller claiming to be Vault & Hide without a vaultandhide.com domain. We only sell through vaultandhide.com and our authorised wholesale partners. Report suspected counterfeiters to [email protected].
No authentication tag, certificate, or verifiable order reference. Every genuine Vault & Hide jacket has an authentication tag. A seller who cannot provide a certificate tied to a specific order is not selling an authentic product.
If you believe you have purchased a counterfeit Vault & Hide product, you may be entitled to a chargeback through your payment provider. Document everything — screenshots of the listing, photos of the product and tags, and your payment receipt — before contacting your bank or card issuer.
Our promise — unconditional and indefinite
The Vault & Hide Authenticity Guarantee carries no small print, no expiry date, and no geographical limit. It means:
- If we have misrepresented the leather in your jacket, you receive a full refund or free replacement — regardless of when you discover it.
- If your authentication tag or certificate cannot be verified through our system, we will investigate within 48 hours and, if the error is ours, replace the jacket at no cost.
- If a laboratory test you commission independently contradicts our material claims, we will cover the cost of the test and provide a full refund.
- If we ever change our leather sourcing and a future batch does not meet our stated standards, we will issue a public notice and offer affected customers full remedies.
We make this guarantee because we are confident in our leather and our supply chain. We publish it publicly because we want to hold ourselves accountable to it.
