How it started
We couldn't find what we were looking for. So we built it.
It started the way a lot of things start — with a problem that shouldn't exist but does. We were looking for leather jackets. Not cheap ones that would crack and peel within two seasons. Not overpriced ones from luxury brands where you're paying for the logo, the flagship store, and the celebrity campaign more than the leather itself. Just a genuinely well-made leather jacket at a fair price, from people who actually knew what they were doing.
That jacket was surprisingly hard to find. The market had two ends and almost nothing in between: fast fashion at the bottom, heritage luxury at the top. The fast-fashion versions were made from bonded leather — split hides glued to polyurethane, dressed up to look like the real thing, and designed to last approximately two winters before the surface started delaminating. The luxury versions were beautiful but built on a pricing model that had as much to do with retail rents and marketing spend as with the leather itself.
We knew the supply chain well enough to understand that the gap between what a great leather jacket cost to make and what it cost to buy at retail was enormous. Karachi, Pakistan — one of the world's great centres of leather manufacturing — was producing jackets for European and American brands that would put their own label on them and sell them for five to ten times the production cost. The craft was there. The materials were there. The expertise was generational. What was missing was a brand willing to go direct.

So that's what we did. We went directly to the source — to the craftspeople, the tanneries, and the manufacturing expertise that had been supplying the world's leather brands for generations — and built Vault & Hide around a single commitment: make the best leather jacket we possibly can, sell it directly to the person who will wear it, and charge what it actually costs to make it well.
No middlemen. No retail markup. No celebrity endorsement budget baked into the price. Just leather, craft, and a direct relationship with the person wearing the jacket.

Finest raw materials
Every jacket starts with genuine full-grain or top-grain leather — the highest grade, where the natural surface of the hide is preserved. We source only from tanneries meeting international environmental standards. No bonded leather. No split leather dressed up to look like full-grain.

Each jacket is made by skilled craftspeople in our Karachi facility — cut, stitched, fitted, and finished by hand. Not assembled by machine on a production line. The craftspeople who make our jackets have learned their trade over years, often decades. That skill is in every stitch.

We sell directly from our workshop to your door. No distributor margin, no wholesale margin, no retail store overhead, no celebrity campaign. The money that would have gone to four layers of middlemen goes into the leather and the labour instead. That is why the price is what it is.

The craft
How we make a jacket — the honest version.
Every Vault & Hide jacket passes through at least fourteen pairs of hands before it ships. There is no shortcut in this process — the industrial methods that make fast fashion cheap are incompatible with a leather jacket built to last. Here is exactly what happens between a raw hide and the jacket that arrives at your door.

Hide selection
Each hide is inspected by hand for grade, thickness, and surface consistency. Only hides meeting our minimum thickness and grain quality standard proceed. Approximately 12–15% of hides are rejected at this stage — they go back to the tannery, not into a jacket.

Pattern cutting
Panels are cut against paper patterns checked against our fit standards before every production run. Bespoke orders use individually drafted patterns based on your measurements. All cutting is done by hand — not by laser or die-cutter.

Stitching
Every seam is stitched by experienced machinists using heavy-duty thread. High-stress areas — shoulders, cuffs, pocket edges — receive reinforced double stitching. We use waxed thread on all exposed seams for weather resistance and durability.

Hardware fitting
Zips, buckles, snaps, and D-rings are solid brass or zinc alloy — never plastic or pot metal. Each piece is fitted by hand and tested for smooth operation before the jacket moves to the next stage.

Lining & finishing
Linings are cut and sewn separately before being hand-stitched into the jacket shell. Edge finishing — skiving, burnishing, and edge paint on exposed leather borders — is done by a specialist. The Vault & Hide authenticity tag is applied at this stage.

47-point quality inspection
Every finished jacket is inspected against a 47-point quality checklist by a dedicated QC team member who did not work on that jacket's production. Any jacket failing a check is returned for rework — not shipped. Approximately 8% of jackets require rework before passing.
Why Karachi
The craft capital the world's leather buyers know — and most leather wearers don't.
Pakistan is among the world's most respected leather exporters. Karachi's leather district has been producing leather goods for international markets for decades. The city is home to craftspeople with multi-generational expertise in cutting, stitching, and finishing that cannot be replicated by moving production somewhere cheaper.
Many of the world's most recognised leather brands source from Pakistani manufacturers without saying so. The OEM production model — make it in Karachi, label it somewhere else — is widespread in the industry. What we chose to do instead was to build a brand that carries its Karachi origin as a mark of quality, not something to hide behind a Western-sounding name.
Our facility is in SITE Industrial Area, one of Karachi's established manufacturing districts. Our craftspeople live in the surrounding neighbourhoods. Our supply chain is 25 minutes away. This proximity is not incidental — it is what allows us to maintain the quality control and craft standards that define our jackets.
